WF POWDERCOATING

Made in Germany - Our WF Powdercoating facility.

What means Powdercoating?

The powder coating of wheels is a multi-step process in which a fine and smooth coating is applied to the surface of the wheels. This process is known for its durability and resistance to corrosion, chemicals, and mechanical influences. With our new in-house WF powder facility, we can produce extremely high-quality and durable finishes that are perfectly matched to the complex spoke structures of our wheels. We use only the finest techniques and equipment to achieve the best possible surface appearance. Through automation and innovative PLC control technology, we can produce in a particularly economical and sustainable manner. In addition to powder coating, we also have the capability to create an industrial and high-gloss polished finish. The following finishes we can recommend—of course, much more is possible upon request!

Work Preparation

The crucial stage
The right preparation is crucial for the quality and durability of the coating. In the first step, factory-painted wheels undergo a chemical “soft stripping” process to remove all old paint residues. For unpainted wheels, this process is skipped, and the process begins with the second station: the smoothing process. This process refines the surface of the raw rim to achieve a smoother and more uniform coating. In the first step, the rims are sand blasted with glass beads. Then, they move to the two-stage vibratory grinding systems. The coarse grinding mechanically vibrates the wheel and removes any burrs that may arise after milling. The fine grinding smooths out all irregularities and makes the surface extremely even, smooth, and ready for adhesion. Any visible irregularities remaining are addressed by handwork.

The powdercoating

the main process
Here, all wheels are processed subsequently. Our powder coating takes place in a sterile and sealed area that is free of dust and dirt. Using a special technique, electrostatically charged powder is sprayed onto the rim and then applied in 2-3 layers, which are cured in the oven at material-friendly times and temperatures. Between each layer, a visual inspection and, if necessary, reworking are performed to ensure the best possible result.

Marking and Quality check

The final steps..
Marking and quality control: All finished coated rims are marked with permanent laser engraving. This confirms to the customer the authenticity of a WF powder coating, identifies the product by specification and production date. This allows us in quality management to trace which material was used by which processor at what time. Furthermore, a WF marking signifies a quality feature with confidentiality.
